After embarrassing themselves at Trump’s addresses to Congress last year some Democrats might be taking a new strategy – just not showing up.
Top Democrat party leaders are still attending the State of the Union however.
Democrats are plotting to boycott President Trump’s State of the Union address next week and host an alternative rally instead after being widely panned for their rowdy behavior during his marquee speech last year.
Dubbed the “People’s State of the Union,” multiple Democrats are planning to assemble on the National Mall near the Capitol and rail against Trump during his primetime spectacle.
Lefty media outlet MeidasTouch and the progressive group MoveOn are organizing the State of the Union knockoff, but top party leaders such as House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-NY) are expected to attend Trump’s address…
…Right now, it’s not fully clear how many Democrats intend to partake in the alternative event, though at least about a dozen have confirmed their plans to do so. Several Democrats had boycotted Trump’s 2025 speech.
This is what the Democrats have come to. They are setting the standard now. If Democrats in masse decide not to show, Republicans next time will likely do the same.
This State of the Union will be extremely important for Trump.
He will have the chance to speak directly to the American people and lay out not just his successes so far but also the successes to come.
He needs to do three things:
Rally his base.
Many influencers on the right are doing all they can to undermine Trump. As we have reported before we don’t believe this is actually a big faction of the base. We believe this is mostly only influencers. That doesn’t mean he can’t make the case to his base still.
Talk to the moderates who moved to him in 2024.
The State of the Union will be the perfect time to reset. Trump has taken action after action. The media has done what they do best. Rather than explaining to people the reason behind what Trump is doing they sow division and chaos. What Trump needs to do is layout his plans and show Americans what is to come from what he is doing.
Call out Democrat elected officials.
What the Democrat party has done during both of Trump’s terms has been a disgrace. The dishonesty was bad in term 1. That dishonesty has reached a fever pitch in term 2. Trump needs to not only point out that but also remind Americans the mess he inherited. Now, we put this as number three for a reason. Blaming Democrats for problems is not going to sit well with voters. The things above are far more important. With that said, if the Democrats are going to be attacking, attacking , attacking, reminding Americans of the dirty tricks of Washington they are pulling is something to dedicate part of the speech to.
