Donald Trump is set to give his State of the Union tonight.
We genuinely agree with many that the State of the Union is mostly political nonsense now.
Whatever party is in charge will talk about all of there accomplishments while the opposing side will say the opposite.
During Trump’s Joint session of Congress last year Democrats took it to a whole new level. No audience has ever looked more childish and foolish then they did. It is yet to be seen if they follow up that performance this year.
This State of the Union feels different this year. This feels like a speech that will be a major opportunity for President Trump.
Here are the things Trump needs to accomplish:
-Make the case to his base that he is keeping his promises
-Layout all of the successes of his administration for the moderate voters
-Layout the path of the administration going forward
The simple truth is that the media is not going to give Trump a fair shake on any issue. He needs to deliver a speech that goes over the media and brings the average voter into the plans of the Trump administration.
In just one year, the Trump administration has reoriented the global trading order, shut down the border, brought crime to its lowest in years, brokered multiple peace deals and taken in trillions in investments.
Here is an example of something Trump needs to highlight.
The economy added 172,000 new private sector jobs and shed 42,000 government jobs — bringing the unemployment rate down to 4.3%.
As President Trump’s agenda takes effect, factory groundbreakings and data centers are leading to more construction jobs — with construction employment up 33,000 in January, including 25,000 new jobs in the nonresidential specialty trades (the highest monthly change in five years).
January’s 130,000 new nonfarm jobs is the best month of job growth yet, signaling President Trump’s pro-growth policies are starting to deliver real momentum in the labor market.
In President Trump’s second term, 615,000 private sector jobs have been added while federal employment has declined to its lowest level since 1966 — and the lowest level in recorded history as a share of the total workforce.
This isn’t just a job number. This is a complete re-privatization of the economy. What this means is that the economy is being drive by private businesses and not government jobs any longer. This is essential for a healthy economy and a reversal of the Biden years.
The problem is that people don’t know this. Trump has to let them know.
We also think Trump has to divide his successes into three buckets:
-Mission Accomplished
-Made progress but more to go
-Foreign Policy
I’ll give you an example for each
Mission Accomplished:
This one is easy. The border. Donald Trump has completely secured the border. Illegal aliens are no longer entering the United States. Even Democrats are being forced to admit this.
Migrant encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border are at their lowest level in more than 50 years
U.S. Border Patrol encounters with migrants crossing into the United States from Mexico have fallen to their lowest level in more than 50 years, according to a Pew Research Center analysis of statistics from the federal government.
The Border Patrol recorded 237,538 encounters with migrants at the U.S.-Mexico border in the 2025 fiscal year, which began in October 2024 and ended in September 2025. That was down from more than 1.5 million encounters in fiscal 2024, more than 2 million in fiscal 2023 and a record of more than 2.2 million in fiscal 2022. The 2025 total was the lowest in any fiscal year since 1970, according to historical data from the Border Patrol.
Made progress but more to go:
This one is also easy. The economy. Listen we think Donald Trump has done a great job on the economic front. Trump has not just made great economic moves but he is setting a foundation for a strong economy for decades to come. With that said, Americans are still feeling the economic strain from the Biden years. Four years of high inflation is not going to go away in one year. Trump has to understand this in his messaging. Americans don’t want to hear inflation is down and the economy is rocking. Americans want to hear here is why the economy is set up for success and that their economic conditions will be improving as the year goes on. Trump should make the case for how the economy is being set up to go off, while not pretending everything is perfect already.
Foreign Policy:
When the history books are written we will look back to this time as the moment America secured itself for years to come. Trump has succeeded in a big way on the foreign policy front. He needs to sell everything he has done. The American people are tired of foreign policy that doesn’t benefit the United States. They are skeptical of some of Trump’s actions because they have seen the foreign policy disasters of the last decade. He should use his speech to showcase all the wins the Trump administration has had with foreign policy and draw a clear line between his plans and those from prior Presidents.
